China Releases Its First ISO Standard for Garbage Trucks, Marking a New Era of Global Harmonization

On October 14, 2025, the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) officially released the ISO 13155: Vocabulary, Classification, and Commercial Specifications for Garbage Trucks, a standard led by Chinese enterprise Yingfeng Environment. This marks the first ISO international standard initiated and published by China in the sanitation equipment sector — a historic milestone, indicating China’s transformation from a "technology follower" to a "standard setter" in the global sanitation industry.

Three Years of Effort, Achieving Global Consensus
Since its project approval in June 2022, ISO 13155 underwent extensive consultation and review with ISO/TC 297 member countries including Germany, Italy, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore. After three years of collaborative development, the standard was finalized and published.

This standard addresses long-standing challenges in the garbage truck industry — inconsistent terminology and ambiguous performance definitions — by establishing a common, authoritative “technical language” for global use.
